Relaxation response practice
Regular class - Tuesdays & Thursdays at 7pm and Saturdays 2pm
Stress is one of the biggest contributors to ill health and disease in todays’ society. Unfortunately we are hard wired to respond to stressors by activating our sympathetic nervous system ( the fight or flight response ) This system worked well for our ancestors who had to deal with very real threats on a daily basis, not so much for us today.
Add to this the fact that body can’t differentiate between a real threat and one that is imagined and you can see how prevalent a problem this can be for some people.
The system of Tai chi, Qi gung and push hands is designed to offer us another way to respond to stress. By learning how to activate your parasympathetic nervous system at will and reverse the negative effects of daily life.
Our class begins with stretches designed to balance the fascia of the body, undoing the effects of poor posture and inactivity that we go through during the day.
The next exercise is the most challenging… learning how to relax!
Our bodies will be feeling open and more alive, we can then practice cultivating and circulating the energy around the body.
And finally we will have the funniest part of the practice… the two person practice where we cultivate our listening senses, both tactile and visual.
We are offering evening classes on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays (single class drop in fee: 20$) . The classes are an hour long and with a monthly membership of only 80$ you can attend all of them… for less than a cup of coffee you can reverse the effects of aging, reduce pain and recover from injury. You can improve your balance and poise and you’ll have a lot of fun!
